Memorial Day 2013

Today, across our nation we remember the men and women who gave their lives for our country.  We honor their sacrifice and heroism, which gave birth to our nation, preserved our union, defended our freedoms, and brought liberty to the oppressed.

At the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., there’s a wall of over 4,000 gold stars, each representing 100 service members lost in the war. In front of it are the words, “Here we mark the price of freedom.” That’s what this day is about: today we mark the price of freedom.

Memorial Day is also a call for prayer – for those who have fought and fallen in the line of service, and for those they left behind.

Their sacrifice reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy everyday are not free, and without those willing to pay the ultimate price we would not be able to enjoy the America we have today.
